Jim Cavanaugh’s Tour d’Afrique

This is a test of my blog while I am getting ready to go.  It is only a test.  Please bear with me.  The good news is that this screen won’t go blank for 30 seconds.  Or maybe that is not good news, depending on your point of view.

 As I get ready to go, am excited to go, and yet nervous as I work hard to get all of my work stuff done, and get all of my stuff packed.  There won’t be many changes to buy stuff in Africa, so I need to pack thoroughly.

On December 13, I attended the Community Cycling Center’s Holiday  Bike
Drive, which is one of the two charities that I am doing my fund-raising for.

Needless to say, it was amazing as always.  To watch hundreds of kids get refurbished bikes and helmets is a treat!  Kids speaking 17 different languages participated.   The whole shebang involves many folks volunteering their time over the course of the year, from helping put bikes together to helping a kid pick out a bike.    I wish that I could put into words how amazing the event is, but suffice to say that none of these kids has an entitlement issue.

The CCC does a lot more than the Holiday Bike Drive, so it worth checking out their web site. 

Am trying to figure out how to do this blog and attach photos, and just see how it all comes together.   Am trying some test runs under “ideal” conditions (sitting in my house watching A Wonderful Life), before I  do it in the Serenghetti.  (I sure hope not to turn this blog into the equivalent of a facebook rant or a twittering fool.)
